When Connection Feels Harder Than It Used To

Relationships & Couples Counselling

Every relationship goes through hard seasons, communication breaks down, trust gets tested, or you and your partner just feel more like roommates than a couple. I offer a supportive, non-judgemental space to help you reconnect, work through conflict, and build a stronger foundation together.

Signs Your Relationship Might Benefit From Support

Relationship difficulties can show up in different ways, some common signs include:

Frequent arguments that don't seem to resolve, or go in circles

Feeling distant, disconnected, or more like housemates than partners

Difficulty communicating without it turning into conflict

Trust that's been broken or is hard to rebuild

Struggling to navigate a major life transition together (a new baby, a move, a health issue, grief)

Differences in parenting approaches, finances, or intimacy that keep resurfacing unresolved

One or both of you feeling unheard, criticised, or dismissed

Wherever you're at, whether things feel like they're in crisis or you just want to strengthen what you already have, couples counselling can help.

About Relationship & Couples Counselling

Relationships aren't static, they shift as life changes, and sometimes the patterns that used to work stop serving you both. Couples counselling isn't about assigning blame or deciding who's "right." It's about understanding the patterns you've fallen into, and building new ways of relating that work for both of you.

This support is also available for individuals navigating relationship difficulties on their own, whether you're working through something from a current relationship, or reflecting on relationship patterns more broadly.

What Can Contribute to Relationship Strain

  • Poor or breakdown in communication over time

  • Unresolved conflict or resentment

  • Life stressors (financial pressure, parenting, work, health)

  • Differing expectations or values

  • Trust being broken (through dishonesty, infidelity, or other betrayals)

  • Growing apart, or feeling like you're on different paths

  • Past trauma or attachment patterns showing up in the relationship

Understanding what's driving the strain is often the first step toward addressing it together.

How Counselling Can Help

Support for relationships and couples is collaborative, and paced around what works for both of you. This can include:

Improving communication

Learning to express needs and listen without it escalating into conflict

Reconnecting and rebuilding trust

Creating space to restore closeness, understanding, and trust at a pace that feels manageable for both partners

Understanding your patterns

Recognising the cycles you fall into, and what tends to trigger them

Navigating transitions together

Support through major life changes that put pressure on a relationship

Individual support within a relationship context

For those working through relationship difficulties on their own

What to Expect in Your First Session

Your first session is a chance to talk through what's been happening, individually or together, and start figuring out what kind of support fits your relationship best. There's no pressure to have it all figured out beforehand, or to attend as a couple if that doesn't feel right yet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do we both need to attend every session?

Not necessarily, this can be discussed and tailored to what works for your relationship and circumstances.

What if we're not sure our relationship can be saved?

Counselling isn't only for relationships in crisis, and it isn't only about staying together. It can also help you gain clarity, whatever direction that leads.

Do I need a referral?

No, you can self-refer (or book as a couple) at any time. Please note Medicare rebates are generally available for individual sessions only, not couples counselling.

Is telehealth as effective as in-person counselling?

Yes. Many clients find telehealth just as valuable, and it can offer more flexibility and privacy depending on your circumstances.

Is telehealth available for couples counselling?

Yes. Many couples find telehealth just as effective, with the flexibility of attending together from home.

What if my partner isn't ready for counselling?

That's okay. You're welcome to attend individually to work through relationship difficulties, sometimes that's a helpful starting point on its own.
